Blues and U’s face FA charge

Essex rivals Southend United and Colchester United have been charged by the FA following an incident in the closing stages of Boxing Day’s Sky Bet League Two derby at Roots Hall Stadium.

Described on the FA’s official website as a ‘mass confrontation’ ensured following a challenged by Colchester’s Noah Chilvers on Sam Hart, which resulted in the U’s man and teammate Tom Lapslie finding their way into the book along with Southend’s Shaun Hobson.

The clubs were given until 6pm on Monday, January 4 to respond.

Southend won the game thanks to two unanswered goals from Simeon Akinola and Timothee Dieng.
