FC Halifax Town v Southend United – Vanarama National League – The Shay – Report
FC Halifax Town 3-1 Southend United
It’s just one win from their opening five Vanarama National League outings for Southend United following this embarrassing display against FC Halifax Town at The Shay.
Jordan Slew handed the Yorkshiremen the lead six minutes before the interval. And things got worse for the Blues soon after the restart when Slew provided Billy Waters with an opportunity to head a second.
The travelling support amongst the 1,959-crowd had little to cheer as their side continued to struggle. Martin Woods’ dead-ball was nodded in by Town skipper Niall Maher to put the contest beyond doubt.
Rhys Murphy’s late goal did little to lift spirits. Halifax celebrated 100-years of football at The Shay with a stylish performance and victory – Southend slipped to fifteenth, three points above the dropzone.

Southend United return to Vanarama National League action on Tuesday, September 14 when Aldershot Town are the visitors to Roots Hall Stadium (7:45pm).
