Blues are beaten by Bees ‘B’

Southend United v Brentford ‘B’ – Friendly Match – Roots Hall Stadium – Summary

Southend United 2-3 Brentford ‘B’

Southend United slipped to their second pre-season defeat as Brentford’s second string won by the odd goal in five at Roots Hall Stadium.

Blues started the game brightly and found themselves two goals in front before the twenty-minute mark.

Jack Bridge kept his cool in a one-on-one situation to open the scoring. Then Sam Dalby doubled their advantage following good work from Harry Phillips and Rhys Murphy.

But that was as good as it got for the non-leaguers. Goalkeeper, Steve Arnold felled Nathan Young-Coombes – Joe Adams netting the resulting spot-kick.

Adams doubled his tally for the evening nine minutes before the interval, firing home after Young-Coombes had initially hit an upright.

Brentford secured the win shortly after the restart. Lachlan Brook profiting from Adams’ toil before dispatching with aplomb.

Southend United return to action on Tuesday, August 10 when Norwich City’s Under 23 side visit Roots Hall Stadium (7pm).

Southend United: Arnold (Seaden 45’), Demetriou (81’), White, Hobson, Ralph (Howard 63’), Phillips (Trialist ‘B’ 45’), Dunne (Ferguson 73’), Ogogo, Bridge (Egbri 63’), Murphy (Rush 90’), Dalby
