Blues babes face tough Coventry challenge

Southend United v Coventry City – Roots Hall Stadium – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 3pm

Southend United v Coventry City – Preview:

SOL CAMPBELL’S youthful Southend United squad once again face a tough task when in-form Coventry City make the trip to Roots Hall Stadium.

Southend’s 4-0 defeat at Peterborough United was their twentieth Sky Bet League One setback of the campaign and while the Blues are hurtling towards relegation, Coventry – with games in hand on the top-two – are ten without defeat, sitting pretty in third.

Speaking to after the heavy loss to Posh, Campbell said: “We were amazing first half. We frustrated them and we played some good football. There were a lot of debutantes out there, but you can only work with what you’ve got.

“You look at Peterborough: vastly experienced, huge budget, they’ve got experienced players and they can hurt you on the break. It was only a matter of time before their quality came through, especially in the second half.”

The Blues are likely to face a similar barrage from a Coventry side managed by former Manchester United striker, Mark Robins. In stark contrast to Southend, the Sky Blues have lost just three league matches this season. They recorded their fourteenth success of the season during the week – Matt Godden netting the only goal of the game six minutes from time to secure victory over Portsmouth at St Andrew’s.
