Blues borrow keeper Montgomery

Southend United have confirmed the emergency loan signing of goalkeeper, James Montgomery from Banarama National League North outfit, Gateshead.

Blues had initially brought in Portsmouth stopper, Alex Bass, on a similar deal following an injury to Mar Oxley.

However, Bass himself was injured during the Blues goalless draw with Salford City at the weekend and was replaced at half-time by Harry Seaden.

The 26-year-old, who has also represented Telford United, Forest Green Rovers and AFC Fylde, has appeared eight times for Gateshead before their campaign being declared null and void. He will be included in the Blues matchday squad for tonight’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Cheltenham Town at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.
