Blues bring in Barnsley wide man Green

Sky Bet League Two outfit, Southend United, have confirmed the signing of Barnsley winger, Jordan Green, on a six-month loan deal.

The 25-year-old links up with Mark Molesley having worked close to the Blues boss during a two-year stint at AFC Bournemouth.

After starting at Fulham, the New Cross-born player drifted into non-league football with Banbury ahead of linking up with Bournemouth in 2015.

Loan spells with Newport County and Leyton Orient followed before Green signed a permanent deal with Yeovil Town, where he became a firm favourite with the Huish Park crowd.

Green joined Barnsley in January 2019, but with first-team opportunities limited he was again loaned to Newport, adding a further eleven appearances whilst at Rodney Parade.

Speaking to www.southendunited.co.uk, Green enthused: “I wanted to come here straight away so that’s why it’s happened so quickly,” he said.

“There’s so many positives to the situation I can’t begin to tell you how many.

“I just want to get going and I’m excited to start playing under the gaffer. He knows what I’m good at. Pressing, driving forward with the ball and my explosiveness.

“He was a big factor in my decision to come here and I’m just ready to work hard.

“I know League Two, I know what it takes to win games in League Two and that’s definitely something I’ll try and bring to the team.”

Meanwhile, boss Molesley added: “He’s no stranger to me. Bournemouth took him out of non-league so I think that shows his mentality.

“He went and earned his stripes in what can be an unforgiving level, non-league.

“Being a quick dynamic winger he would have been kicked about a bit so he’s got that little bit of aggression in him to win the ball back and take people on.

“I know what attributes he has and what he can bring to the table, and that’s hard work, endeavour and also excitement on the ball.

“I think he’s going to be really exciting for Southend fans to watch and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
