Blues draw at Dartford

Dartford v Southend United – Friendly Match – Princes Park – Summary

Dartford 2-2 Southend United

Southend United’s unremarkable pre-season continued with a 2-2 draw at Vanarama National League South outfit Dartford at Princes Park.

There was very little to choose between the sides. Following a dour opening half an hour, midfielder O’Shane Stewart fired the Blues ahead with a fizzing effort from just outside the box.

However, Dartford was on terms within three minutes. Goalkeeper Harry Seaden coming together with Jake Robinson – the former Billericay Town frontman dusting himself off before dispatching the resulting spot-kick.

The games took on a similar pattern after the restart. Dan Roberts gave the home side the lead midway through the second period. But with time running out, Dartford substitute Josh Hill headed into his own net, handing Southend a share of the spoils.

Southend United return to action on Wednesday, August 4 when Brentford’s ‘B’ team visit Roots Hall Stadium (7:45pm).
