An early goal from loanee, Kenny Clark ensured Southend United a second-successive Vanarama National League victory as promotion-hopefuls, FC Halifax Town were sent spinning at Roots Hall Stadium.
Clark supplied the finishing touch to a corner routine fashioned by Jack Bridge and Noor Husin.
Halifax stopper, Sam Johnson saved from Sam Dalby as the Blues threatened to double their advantage before the break. Matty Warburton had gone close for the visitors in the opening stages.
Tyrell Warren and Warburton went close as Halifax stepped up their attempts to salvage the contest. However, Kevin Maher’s men held firm to record their fifteenth victory of the campaign.
Southend United return to Vanarama National League action on Tuesday, April 26 when Boreham Wood visit Roots Hall Stadium (7:45pm).
