Southend United have been hit by a double EFL misconduct charge for non-payment of players as well as fielding an ineligible player.
Blues have been referred to an independent Disciplinary Commission. A statement on the EFL website explains: ‘For failing to adhere to the terms of the players’ contracts in failing to pay a number players on the applicable payment due dates in February 2020.
The statement continues: ‘The commission will also hear an additional charge relating to the fielding of an ineligible player in the Sky Bet League One match against Lincoln City on 1 February 2020.
The identity of the player concerned has not yet been confirmed.
With both matters subject to proceedings, the EFL confirmed they will be making no further comment at this time.
The Yellow Advertiser contacted Southend United FC regarding both matters and were told the club would also be making no comment.
