Bolton Wanderers v Southend United – University of Bolton Stadium – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 3pm
Bolton Wanderers v Southend United – Preview:
Southend United head to rock-bottom Bolton Wanderers, keen to build on last weekend’s Sky Bet League One draw with Rotherham United at Roots Hall.
Blues produced a spirited display against the Millers to glean their seventh point of the season – and with back-to-back fixtures against Bolton and MK Dons to follow, Sol Campbell’s men will need to take maximum points, closing the ever-increasing gap – and offering the Blues a lifeline in their bid to avoid relegation.
Ultimately, the Roots Hall crowd will only judge on an improvement in their side if they are to start winning matches. However, boss Campbell thought his side would have taken heart from last weekend’s display.
“Hopefully, the guys will take this game on and think yes, we created a lot of chances but we just need to connect and stick a couple of them away, and we could easily have four goals in the end,” he told www.southendunited.co.uk.
Campbell has several injury concerns. Striker Tom Hopper could make the bench “He’s been coming into his own lately and gives us a lot up front with his running ability and his work rate so we want to give him enough time to make it,” the former England defender explained.
Nathan Ralph will be missing for between four to six month and will need surgery after suffering a dislocated shoulder. However, Sam Manton could come into contention, while both Stephen McLaughlin and Brandon Goodship also look likely to feature.
