Blues recent revival ended at Doncaster

Doncaster Rovers 3-1 Southend United

TROUBLED SOUTHEND UNITED saw their recent mini-revival brought to a swift conclusion by ruthless Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Blues are now cut fifteen points adrift of the Sky Bet League One safety zone after Rovers – who thrashed them 7-1 at Roots Hall back in October – eased to a 3-1 success thanks to a brace from Kieran Sadlier and one from Niall Ennis.

Blues did hit back when Harry Phillips – making his first start – saw his powerful deflected effort from distance reduce the arrears. However, the defeat was Southend’s eighteenth of a simply woeful campaign in which they have now conceded more than seventy goals.

Southend United return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday, February 1 when Lincoln City are the visitors to Roots Hall Stadium (3pm).
