Solihull Moors v Southend United – Vanarama National League – The ARMCO Arena – Report

Solihull Moors 0-3 Southend United

Southend United extended their unbeaten Vanarama National League sequence to eleven games with an eye-catching three-goal victory over play-off contenders Solihull Moors on a damp night at the ARMCO Arena.

“It’s a busy week, but it’s the same for both teams,” Blues boss Kevin Maher explained ahead of the rearranged encounter.

“It’s short notice for the fans. Some will have to miss out because of the late scheduling, which is disappointing, but no doubt we’ll have a great following again.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to. I know they’ve got one or two injury problems, but it’s always a good game there and one that we’ve got to perform well in.”

Despite being forced on the back foot during the early stages, it was Southend who took the lead when Oli Coker converted after Wes Fonguck had centred.

And it was soon two for Blues and two for Coker. This time, Marcus Dackers was the creator following a lightning counter-attack.

Blues all but killed the contest shortly after the hour. leading marksman, Harry Cardwell profited from Oli Kensdale’s pass to net his fifteenth goal of the season.

The win lifted Southend back into tenth place, nine points shy of the play-off places. They return to Vanarama National League action on Friday, March 29 when they face Ebbsfleet United at the Kuflink Stadium (3pm).
