Blues unbeaten in five after Husin leveller

Oldham Athletic v Southend United – Vanarama National League – Boundary Park – Report

Oldham Athletic 1-1 Southend United

Southend United extended their unbeaten Vanarama National League sequence to five matches with a hard-earned share of the spoils with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

Following a goalless opening half, Oldham – who were thrashed 4-0 at Roots Hall Stadium on the opening day of the season – forged ahead when Nathan Sheron thumped beyond Collin Andeng Ndi after James Norwood had fashioned an opening.

But the Latics’ lead was wiped out ten minutes from time when Noor Husin profited from the toil of Jack Bridge and Marcus Dackers before beating Mathew Hudson with a deflected effort.

The draw moved Kevin Maher’s men up to twelfth place, six points clear of the relegation places. Southend United return to Vanarama National League action on Tuesday, March 5 when Wealdston visits Roots Hall Stadium (7:45pm).
