Body found in lake at park in Redbridge

An elderly man died in “non-suspicious” circumstances in a Redbridge park on Tuesday this week.

According to the Metropolitan Police, officers received a call about the 72-year-old man’s body in a lake at Fairlop Waters Country Park at 2:15pm.

A spokesperson said: “Following police enquiries the death was deemed unexpected but non-suspicious.”

A file will now be prepared for the coroner.

The park, a former gravel quarry, has a large lake used for watersports alongside smaller lakes reserved for angling and wildlife.

The spokesperson was unable to confirm which lake the body was found in, but a video posted on social media showed emergency service vehicles parked next to the main lake.

Redbridge Council, which owns the park, said it has now been reopened following the police investigation.
