Wicketkeeper/batsman Michael Bones hit an impressive 50 off 53 deliveries, helping Hornchurch to a comfortable victory over Billericay at Blunts Wall Road.
Roy Smith chipped in with 42, while both Kieran Scarlioli (39) and Ronnie Saunders (30) were also amongst the runs as the visitors posted 213/8 from their allocated 40 overs – Billericay’s Robert Rayner and Darren Ironside each claiming two wickets.
The Billericay response never really gathered momentum. Matthew Bell top-scored with 30, while Ironside’s 26 was the only other notable knock.
Jermaine Shillingford did the bulk of the damage with 3/37, while there was two each for Jas Bassan and Marc Whitlock as Hornchurch got their Gooch Division campaign off to a flying start.
