Braintree Town v Eastbourne Borough – Vanarama National League South – Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium – Report

Braintree Town 2-3 Eastbourne Borough

With their place in the Vanarama National League play-offs already secured, Braintree Town concluded their regular season campaign with a 3-2 home defeat to nine-man Eastbourne Borough, who had Yahya Bamba and Brad Barry sent off late on.

Angelo Harrop made three changes to his starting line-up following the 2-1 victory at Havant & Waterlooville last Saturday with Freddie Sears, Jayden Davis and Lewis Miccio replacing Alfie Payne, Leon Davies and Shaq Coulthirst, who had been recalled from his loan at Braintree by parent club Ebbsfleet United.

Jack Roberts returned to the bench following a loan spell at Cheshunt.

With the Iron looking lively early on, they took the lead in the nineteenth minute when Jayden Davis’ low ball into the area was clinically fired home by former West Ham striker Freddie Sears.

Eastbourne Borough levelled four minutes before half-time when Alfie Bendle’s corner dropped to Bamba to fire a superb half-volley into the top corner of the net from twelve yards out.

The Sports took the lead five minutes after the resumption, with Bamba turning provider to play in Bendle to drill home a low drive past Jack Sims for his first goal of the season.

With Braintree pushing forward in search of an equaliser, Joe Grimwood’s looping header from Lewis Miccio’s cross drew them level in the ninetieth minute – only for the visitors to make it 3-2 two minutes into stoppage time when Sam Beard’s swinging corner was headed on by Pierce Bird for substitute Imran Uche to fire into the bottom corner from ten yards out and seal the three points.

Braintree Town are in Vanarama National League South play-off action on Tuesday when Bath City are the visitors to the Rare Breed Meat Co. Stadium (7.45pm).
