Braintree climb closer to play-offs

Braintree Town 3 Dover Athletic 0

Braintree Town moved to within three points of the play-off places after a 3-0 defeat of Dover Athletic at the Rare Breeds Meat Co Stadium with Jayden Davis, Ben Tompkins and Aaron Blair all netting for the Iron in the first half.

Angelo Harrop’s side showed their attacking intent from the start against bottom of the table Dover and they took the lead after only eight minutes when Davis’s powerful effort was deflected past Whites keeper Daniel Jinadu to make it 1-0.

Just 14 minutes later, Tom Blackwell’s free kick was headed home from inside the box by Tompkins to make it 2-0.

With Iron pushing forward and continuing to dominate, Alfie Pavey’s long ball over the top found Blair, who showed outstanding individual skill to skip past three Dover defenders before slotting home past Jinadu in the 38th minute for Braintree’s third.

Despite creating a couple of half chances for themselves following the resumption, the Iron were unable to further add to their tally and despite Dover’s performance showing signs of improvement as the half progressed, Braintree closed the game out under little pressure to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

Next up for Braintree Town is a trip to Hardenhuish Park to play Chippenham Town on Saturday (3.00pm)
