Braintree continue to climb

Chippenham Town 0 Braintree Town 1

Baris Altintop’s 76th minute winner saw Braintree Town move to within three points of the Vanarama National League South play-off places following their 1-0 victory over Chippenham Town at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium.

Angelo Harrop named an unchanged starting eleven following Braintree’s 3-0 win at the Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium last week.

In a dour game of few chances, Iron finally broke the deadlock late on when Tom Blackwell’s corner was poked home by Altintop from close range at the far post.

Braintree had a great chance to make it 2-0 just four minutes later when substitute Shaq Coulthirst slipped Blackwell through one-on-one with Bluebirds’ keeper Will Henry -only for the young striker to fire just wide of of the upright.

Chippenham Town wasted a fantastic opportunity to draw level in stoppage time when sub–Caine Bradbury’s shot was pushed away by Jack Sims only for Luke Spokes to the loose ball fire high over the crossbar.

Next up for Braintree in the Vanarama National League South fixture is the visit of Torquay United to Cressing Road on Saturday February 17 (3.00pm)
