HARRY BRANCH has become the latest player to commit his future to Southend Saxons RFC after putting pen to paper on a new contract with the Warners Bridge club.
Branch re-joined the Saxons two years ago following a spell with Westcliff and has played a pivotal role in the clubs attempts to mount a successful London One North promotion charge.
Director of Rugby, Josh Ward, was delighted to secure the signature of another of his senior players: “Branchy committing his long term future to the club is brilliant news,” he enthused.
“It’s clear to see he’s developed a lot over the past two seasons and will continue to under our staff at the club. He brings relentless energy to the group and has a genuine passion for the club and our people.
“We’re onto something very special as a group and I’m really looking forward to seeing Harry progress over the coming seasons.”
Meanwhile, Branch was quick to point out that the Warners Bridge club felt like ‘home’ – adding: “I would like to say thank you to everyone at Southend RFC for the support that I have received since coming back into the club.
I am delighted to announce that I was able to sign a new deal with Southend. It has always been my family’s club, lots of long-term friends and family that I have known all my life have played here so to me it is an absolute privilege to be able to play my senior rugby here.
“I have, on occasion, been allowed to captain the side which has been a real honour to do, Hopefully, I may be lucky enough to follow in my father’s footsteps (Nigel Branch) and be a Southend captain. myself, Josh and Speedy sat down in late 2017/18 season with a goal and plan in mind for the next few seasons ahead, so far on that journey, everything has been going as planned.
“I’m looking forward to continuing with everyone in this special group towards our ultimate goal of promotion. Let’s pack the bridge this Saturday against Brentwood and finish off 2019.”
Southend Saxons face Brentwood at Warners Bridge on Saturday, December 21 in their final London One North fixture of 2019 (3pm)
