Brentwood Borough Council marks International Holocaust Memorial Day

A commemorative flag has been raised at Brentwood Town Hall to mark International Holocaust Memorial Day and 77 years since the liberation of Auschwitz

Brentwood Mayor Cllr Olivia Sanders said; “We remember atrocities perpetrated against the Jewish people from time immemorial, especially the Holocaust. It is a time to remember the people and learn about the events that led to that appalling horror, to ensure that it does not happen again and to give dignity to those who suffered and perished.

“We also remember recent atrocities such as those in Bosnia, Cambodia and Rwanda.

A memorial event will be held on Saturday January 29 at Brentwood County High School at 6.30pm. There will be a display regarding the Holocaust which can be viewed before and after the main event – doors will open at 5:45 – and the evening will be suitable for all ages.

A freewill offering will be taken to go to causes supported by CFI and the Jewish Community, including Yad Vashem, Israel’s Official Memorial to the Victims of the Holocaust, Education and Research Centre.
