Brian Dear; City is still a tough task for Hammers

Manchester City v West Ham United – Premier League – Etihad Stadium – Sunday (2pm) – Preview

Despite their excellent opening half of the season, Brian Dear believes West Ham United will find the going tough when they take on the Premier League champions, Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Last month, the Hammers ended City’s four-year stranglehold on the Carabao Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout at the London Stadium. And although City have slipped at home recently against Crystal Palace, Dear thinks it is a tall order to expect the same from his former side.

“We won’t go there in fear of them, but I think the extra quality will show,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’d love the boys to prove me wrong and pick up the three points – Even a point. But I have to be honest. We have improved but are still short of the likes of City and the challengers, which made the recent cup performance, followed by the win over Liverpool, so special.

“Those results have proved it is possible. I know we looked tired at Wolves last weekend, but I’d expect the manager has addressed that. I think we will give City a game but expecting a win is too much, I think.”

Dear expects Moyes to strengthen his squad in January, adding: “Jesse Lingard is constantly linked with a return, while Divock Origi’s name cropped up recently. Injuries have hindered us at times. Three or four quality suitable signings will give us half a chance when challenging for the top six again.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: Manchester City 3-1 West Ham United
