Viborg FF v West Ham United – UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round, second leg – Energi Viborg Arena – Thursday (6pm) – Preview
Brian Dear hopes that West Ham United can make Europa League progress and inject some positivity following their woeful start to the season.
The Hammers are currently bottom of the Premier League, without a point or a goal to their name. However, they head to Denmark to face Viborg FF holding a 3-1 advantage thanks to goals from Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio during the first leg at teh London Stadium last week.
“We’ve got to win the tie, we’ve got to get through and find something to be positive about,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“I think Viborg were a better team than some made them out to be. It was far from comfortable and we still have work to do at their place. But we have the players capable of getting the job done.
Dear continued: “I want us to do well in Europe, especially having been part of a West Ham team that won a trophy. But I must be honest, I’m more concerned about the Premier League right now.
“David Moyes will make changes ahead of Viborg, but the first leg suggested that we should be taking them seriously. If we fall behind and give them a way back into the tie then this could all end in embarrassment.
“I’m struggling to see where the next win will come from in the Premier League, so we need to get through this and give the supporters some hope.
“But give me the choice between going through or a few points on the board in the league and I’m afraid it’s no contest.”
Brian Dear’s prediction: Viborg FF 0-1 West Ham United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Viborg FF 1-2 West Ham United
