Brian Dear; Foxes should hold no fears for Hammers

West Ham United v Leicester City – Premier League – London Stadium – Monday (8pm) – Preview

Brian Dear was quick to acknowledge the considerable threat provided by Leicester City but insisted that facing potential title contenders should no longer hold any fears for West Ham United.

The Hammers completed an impressive double over the Foxes during the last campaign: “Leicester have earned the respect they deserve, but we are a match for them,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“We were terrific at Newcastle. I still hold concerns over our defending at times, but I believe David Moyes is working on strengthening us in that department.

“Going forward, we’ve been tremendous. Power, pace and always look like scoring. Said Benrahma has stepped up as well. If we can add an out goalscorer to relieve some of the pressure from Michail Antonio, then we can replicate what we achieved last season.”

On Leicester, Dear added: “They have so many good players. A spine – they are top four contenders again.

“Jamie Vardy is already up and running, scoring a great goal to beat Wolves at the weekend. He is always going to be a threat. But then again, so is Kelechi Iheanacho, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison.

“But I think we should focus on West Ham. We are at home, we have shown enough over the past season that we are up for the challenge. I think it will be a tight game and would love to see us take all three points, but a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world against a side I expect to see in the top six come the end of the season.”
