Brian Dear: Hammers are playing for Moyes’s future

Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United – Premier League – Molineux Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Brian Dear believes that David Moyes’s position as West Ham United’s manager will be under severe scrutiny when the East Londoners take on fellow strugglers, Wolverhampton wanderers at Molineux on Saturday.

The Hammers head to the Black Country having taken just one point from the last eighteen on offer and in the knowledge, they will slip into the Premier League relegation zone should Wolves take the points.

“I think it’s a case or do or die for Moyes,” the former Hammers frontman told Yellow Sport.

“Moyes has done a tremendous job at West Ham, but this is a results industry and we are not winning football matches.

“Performances have been brittle. I thought we had left all this behind, but here we are in the middle of a desperate bid to avoid relegation. I know we still have the FA Cup and Europa Conference League, but the Premier League is our bread and butter. I don’t think the club can afford relegation and might act sooner rather than later if we don’t get the right result this weekend.

“Of course, it isn’t something I want to see happen. I’m a supporter and want to see the manager and his team do well. I’d love to see Moyes turn it around and why shouldn’t he? He’s done it twice in the past.”

Hosts, Wolves currently occupy second from bottom in the table with just three wins from their eighteen league outings to date: “Forget all that, they will be up for it, knowing they can climb above us,” Dear added.

“This is a massive match. The Wolves were a little more like their old selves at Liverpool in the cup last week. They were desperately unlucky not to win the game. The late decision to rule out Toti Gomes’ goal was ludicrous. They were fuming. I only hope we don’t receive the backlash on Saturday.

“It’s a massive match and is followed by a game with Everton. A time for battlers and bravery. Let’s see who’s prepared to dig deep.
