Brian Dear: I fear for fragile Hammers at Anfield

Liverpool v West Ham United – Anfield – Premier League – Monday 8pm

Liverpool v West Ham United – Preview:

Struggling West Ham United head to Anfield occupying a place in the Premier League dropzone and without a win in seven matches, and former frontman, Brian Dear, doesn’t see that sequence coming to a close in the North-West on Monday evening.

The Hammers attempts to ‘batten down the hatches’ were foiled on Wednesday evening at Manchester City and Dear fears a similar outcome awaits the out of sorts east Londoners, who continue to slip deeper into trouble with games swiftly running out.

“I guess you could call it damage limitation,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“It’s always going to be tough playing against a team with so many great footballers who are playing with confidence. I think we tried to save our goal difference taking a hit at Manchester City – this will be much the same I fear.

“It’s always going to be difficult. If you try to play football against a side who are better than you, you run the risk of getting swallowed up. I understand why David Moyes has tried to keep it tight, particularly in these games, but I’m also aware that it isn’t what the fans want to see.
Dear continued: “The problem we have is that there is now very little room for error. Some people have said we have an easier run after the City and Liverpool games, but having watched the likes of Southampton, Norwich and Aston Villa in recent weeks, I’d question whether we will find facing them any easier.

“Those around us seem to be up for the fight, something Moyes must demand from this group of players. We can all question why we are in this mess, but the bottom line is that we are and have to do something about it.

“That is down to the players. We have a huge couple of months coming up. Effort and determination is the minimum requirement, although without quality even that doesn’t go too far in the Premier League.

“We need leaders, we need players willing to take some responsibility, and above all, we need it quickly.”
