Brian Dear: I’m interested to see how far we can go with City?

Manchester City v West Ham United – Premier League – Etihad Stadium – Saturday 12:30pm – Preview

“If we can win this one, the title charge is on,” Brian Dear joked to Yellow Sport.

In-form West Ham United head to the North West to face the only side that has taken more Premier League points since the turn of the year and appear set to claim their fifth title.

There’s little doubt that Manchester City has been a chasm better than the rest this season. Nineteen victories on the bounce has seen them establish a ten-point lead at the top of the table as well as make progress in cup competitions both domestically and in Europe.

Nevertheless, having held Pep Guardiola’s side to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium back in late October, former frontman Dear insisted the Hammers has as good a chance as any to end City’s mammoth run.

“Listen, I know its a bit of a free hit for us. The pressure is off, we can go there and see how far we have come against arguably the best side in Europe at the moment.

“When you see how they have brushed everything in front of them to one side it’s quite a daunting prospect. But then you think, someone will beat them sooner or later, perhaps it could be West Ham?

Dear continued: “City could win the lot this season. But the focus must be on what West ham have achieved. We’ve already won fourteen Premier League games and are in the top four. All this from a team some experts expected to be relegated before a ball was kicked.

“The win over Tottenham lifted spirits further. Spurs came at us strongly, but we showed resolve and determination. As much as Spurs dominated the statistics, I thought we looked like the more organised side, as we have more often than not this season.

“It’s going to be a tall order to win at Manchester City, but I’m intrigued to see how far we can push them as the team continues to evolve positively under David Moyes.
