West Ham United v Eintracht Frankfurt – UEFA Europa League semi-final first-leg – London Stadium – Thursday (8pm) – Preview

West Ham United’s 1965 European Cup Winner’s Cup winner, Brian Dear has urged the current crop of Hammers to leave nothing behind when they face Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League semi-final first-leg at the London Stadium on Thursday evening.

The East Londoners league form has dipped of late, while a spate of injuries have hampered David Moyes’ men further as they look to finish the season positively.

“We’ve just got to clear out minds again and throw everything we’ve got at Eintracht Frankfurt,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“We have the history of that 1976 encounter on our side. No doubt, a few of our fans will have watched that one back this week for inspiration. The players need only look back at the last round and that win in Lyon to prove that they are up to the task.

“Of course, if you are in the last four of a European competition then you must be a decent side. However, although Eintracht turned over Barcelona in the quarter-finals, their recent league form has been poor. They haven’t won since the middle of March in the league. Clearly, like West Ham, they are putting all their eggs in one basket?

“Defensively, we appear to have a bit of a headache. However, as I said before, this provides an opportunity for someone to step up and make a name for themselves. Everyone has to step up – everyone is playing a part.”

Dear continued: “The stage is set. The atmosphere will be electric. The fans can’t wait and neither can I.

“One big push over these two matches and West Ham United could be heading into our third senior European final. Let that sink in. To many, we have always been a bit of a provincial club. Play nice football – Bounce between the top two divisions.

“But we have an opportunity to put down a marker. Show our potential and put down a marker.

“Massive? Bloody enormous!”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
