West Ham United v Liverpool – Premier League – London Stadium – Sunday (4:30pm) – Preview
The big games keep coming for West Ham United and so far, so have the big performances.
Unbeaten away in the Premier League and through to the quarter-final stages of the Carabao Cup having knocked out both Manchester United and City. Nevertheless, Sunday provides another huge challenge, but one Brian Dear insists the Hammers are ready for.
“It’s only Liverpool,” Dear joked to Yellow Sport.
“We’ve got to play them at some point and at the moment we are playing some really good football. Sure, they are a great team with some terrific footballers but let them worry about us.
“Declan Rice, Michail Antonio, Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen to name but a few. There is plenty for Liverpool to think about as well. They will be favourites, but then again they were against Brighton last week. Brighton were brave and I expect us to be the same.
“The likes of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino provide a phenomenal amount of goals for Liverpool. But we have been strong defensively. All of a sudden, these are games and challenges that West Ham relishes under David Moyes.”
The former frontman continued: “Liverpool are unbeaten in the league. Like the cup match with City, we must match them. I know you always need a bit of luck to go your way in these games because they will create chances, keep the ball and put you under pressure. But they are not completely infallible at the back. Our pace and power can cause them problems.
“The atmosphere at the London Stadium has been fantastic of late. I’m not going to start another old and new stadium debate, but fans do respond when a team are doing well and playing nice football.
“West Ham will need the fans on Sunday and I think with them behind us and this spirit and determination, we can get something from the game and extend our unbeaten run to four.”
