Brian Dear on the Hammers – Continue the current mindset

Manchester United v West Ham United – Old Trafford – Premier League – Wednesday 6pm

Manchester United v West Ham United – Preview

Ten points from a possible fifteen on offer have all but secured West Ham United’s Premier League status for another year. Indeed, it would take a calamity of titanic proportions for the East Londoners to slip into the bottom three from this position, much to the relief of everyone connected to the club.

Nevertheless, former frontman, Brian Dear, has called for more of the same regarding their recent form and has insisted that the Hammers head into their remaining two matches carrying the same mindset that there is still a job to be done.

First up, David Moyes’ men head to his former club, Manchester United, themselves smarting from a mediocre FA Cup semi-final performance against Chelsea at the weekend.

“We can’t go there thinking the job is done,” Dear told YellowSport.

“We have to finish the season on with a flourish. It would be disrespectful to the supporters if we think we’ve done enough and switch off. They deserve better than that.

“Obviously, it’s highly unlikely that West Ham will go down from here, but while there is even the slightest prospect of that, we can’t take anything for granted.

“There are six points on offer and that’s exactly what we should be aiming for. Manchester United are going well in the league, but they displayed vulnerability recently against Southampton and Chelsea which we can try to capitalise on.”

Dear continued: “A lot of people are already focusing on what we can do next season but minds can’t be ‘on the beach’ just yet. I’d imagine one or two here are playing out their West Ham United careers this week with David Moyes set to put his own stamp on the team.

“This group – whatever their future – owe it to the supporters in this last couple of games. It’s going to be remembered as another disappointing season, regardless. But asking for one big effort in these last two matches is the minimum requirement from the fans, who have suffered quite enough in recent years.
