Brian Dear on the Hammers – More of the same please, Hammers

Newcastle United v West Ham United – St James Park – Premier League – Sunday 2pm

Newcastle United v West Ham United – Preview;

I think it’s fair to say that Brian Dear – along with West Ham United supporters all over the world – was both relieved and delighted with the Hammers dramatic Premier League success over Chelsea during the week.

David Moyes’ men lifted themselves three points clear of the dropzone thanks to Andriy Yarmolenko’s last-minute winner, but without wishing to spoil the party, former frontman Dear has enlarged the players to swiftly back that performance up.

“I predicted a win over Chelsea in my last Yellow Sport column, but it will be no good if we don’t build on it,” Dear explained.

“We looked so much better – confident going forward – defenders putting their bodies on the line. It was an honest display – exactly what West Ham supporters wanted to see – and the team got their just deserts.

“The flair players like Micheil Antonio and Manuel Lanzini looked a little more on the ball, while Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice again performed superbly.”

West Ham now heads to the North-East and will face a Newcastle United side fresh off the back of a thumping win at Bournemouth and who are unbeaten in five Premier League outings.

“No doubt, they are on a roll at the moment,” Dear added.

“It’s a tough place to go at the best of times, but then again, nobody – except me – seemed to think we could beat Chelsea.

“It’s stating the obvious that we need another three points, but taking something will set us up nicely for three games against Burnley, Norwich and Watford, which I believe will map out our Premier League future.”
