West Ham United v Burnley – London Stadium – Premier League – Wednesday 6pm
West Ham United v Burnley – Preview;
Brian Dear has been pleasantly surprised with West Ham’s recent upturn in fortunes and has urged the players to continued that trend when Burnley visit the London Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Four points from a possible six gleaned from matches with Chelsea and Newcastle have put a little daylight between the Hammers and the dropzone. However, defensive frailties suggest the East Londoners will have to remain on the front foot to secure their Premier League future.
“We have some very good attacking players who have clicked all of a sudden,” Dear explained.
“I don’t think we have a clean sheet in us just yet, so sticking with this attacking policy is quite clearly the best bet to ensure we stay up.
“I think one more win will be enough, although another four from six against Burnley and Norwich will put us out of sight from the bottom three. We’ve got to take it to ‘em and get the job done.”
Dear continued; “Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio have been superb this last week, as have Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen. Their role in giving us a lifeline should not be underestimated. But we’ve seen a few more glimpses of the old Manuel Lanzini as well – particularly against Chelsea. This is a strong squad when you look at it from the outside, but consistency has always been an issue, seemingly leaving us in this recurring situation.
“Personally, I think we will stay up now. Burnley will be well-organised – Sean Dyche’ sides always are. But I expect us to beat them and try to finish the season with a bit of a flourish
