Crystal Palace v West Ham United – Selhurst Park – Premier League – Thursday 3pm
Crystal Palace v West Ham United – Preview:
BRIAN DEAR was relieved to see West Ham United snatch an important Premier League victory at Southampton last time out and has urged the Hammers players to ensure they build on that by bringing back something from a potentially tricky trip to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.
The Hammers have had a period of inactivity following the postponement of their Premier League match with Liverpool due to the Reds ultimately successful bid to become World Cup champions, and Dear thought the rest might have done Manuel Pellegrini’s squad a bit of good as they geared up for the festive period.
“A few bumps and bruises will have healed – we should head to Selhurst Park fresh and revitalised,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“The win at Southampton was a little more comfortable than the scoreline suggested, but three points are three points – now we need to build on that.
“Palace have had a reasonable season and won at the London Stadium. But they haven’t won in three matches and could be there for the taking if West Ham can produce a similar display to the ones we have seen recently against Chelsea and the Saints.”
Dear added: “I think the difference was clear with Michail Antonio supporting Sebastien Haller in attack. We look more of a threat and look like we have goals in us.
“Although we won at St Mary’s, the manager’s position is still under scrutiny. Palace will perhaps believe they have to win as the home side. I wouldn’t say this is a ‘must-win’ game for West Ham, but it is certainly a ‘must not lose’ game for Pellegrini and the team.”
