Brian Dear: Quite frankly, I’m worried – I can’t see where the next win is coming from

West Ham United v Liverpool – London Stadium – Premier League – Wednesday 7:45pm

West Ham United v Liverpool – Preview:

WEST HAM UNITED’S troubled season hit a new low following Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup defeat at the hands of an under-strength West Bromwich Albion side. And having witnessed the action, Brian Dear aired his concern as the Hammers prepared to face unbeaten Premier League leaders, Liverpool, at the London Stadium.

West Ham remains outside the dropzone on goal difference but a four-goal defeat on Wednesday evening would see the east Londoners drop into the bottom three.

“Quite frankly, I’m worried – I can’t see where the next win is coming from at the moment,” Dear confessed to Yellow Sport.

“Recent performances have been poor, but Saturday was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. It was totally unacceptable – west Brom won far more comfortably than the scoreline suggested.

“And now it’s Liverpool. I know we can’t just write off any game, but let’s be honest – can anyone see us getting anything out of the game?

“More worryingly, do we look like getting anything out of Brighton on Saturday? I’m not sure about that one either. Of course, we are linked with new players coming in. But what type of player is going to be keen to join a relegation battle? It’s largely up to this group to get their act together and turn this situation around.”

Speaking about Liverpool, Dear added: “They are a terrific side. The Premier League is as good as in the bag, adding to the Champions League and World Cup titles that they have won under Jurgen Klopp.

“I know we drew with them last time we played, but prior to that, they had a spell of scoring four every time they played us. Unless we find something a bit special, I can see that – or worse – happening again on Wednesday night.

“I usually like to remain positive when I’m talking about West Ham – It’s my team, I’m a supporter as well as an ex-player. But it is so difficult to see anything giving us hope at the moment. The supporters are angry and I understand that.

“I know it’s just eleven v eleven and one any given day anything can happen. But in stark contrast to Liverpool, we lack quality all over the pitch at the moment. I hope I’m wrong – I want to be proved wrong – but I fear this is going to be a long night.”
