Brian Dear: Time to end the Seagulls hoodoo

West Ham United v Brighton & Hove Albion – Premier League – London Stadium – Wednesday (7:30pm) – Preview

Brian Dear has called upon the West Ham United players to regroup following back-to-back Premier League defeats and return to winning ways against their ‘bogey team’ Brighton on Wednesday evening.

The Seagulls have avoided defeat in each of the eight meetings between the clubs since they returned to the top flight, with the last five games ending all square.

“I’m not overly concerned because I think we showed plenty of spirit at Manchester City,” Dear told Yellow Sport.

“But December is going to be a busy month with games coming thick and fast. We can’t really afford a third loss on the bounce and to be honest, I don’t expect us to.

“Brighton have had the ‘Indian sign’ over us in recent times. Graham Potter has a decent group. But they haven’t won in nine matches, failing to score in four of them. We need to turn the screw.”

Dear acknowledged that the Hammers need to be more ruthless themselves, adding: “Michail Antonio is going through a barren spell. We need him to come good. You can see that Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma are working hard. I think they just need the breaks.

“Football has changed since my day. perhaps the modern-day footballers overthink things? Sometimes, you need to try to relax and play. I guess the pressure of football today is much greater?

“All the same, I think these boys will start scoring goals again soon. It’s high time we put one over Brighton. I expect us to do it on Wednesday night.”

Brian Dear’s prediction: West Ham United 3-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
