Arsenal v West Ham United – Emirate Stadium – Premier League – Saturday 3pm
Arsenal v West Ham United – Preview:
BRIAN DEAR was delighted to see West Ham United return to Premier League winning ways, but recognised that one swallow certainly doesn’t make a summer where avoiding relegation is concerned.
The east Londoners produced an impressive performance to dispatch Southampton by three goals to one at the London Stadium – a result which lifted them out of the dropzone, despite rivals also picking up points.
“It was an important win, but we can’t rest on our laurels,” Dear told Yellow Sport.
“The other results for Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth confirmed we can’t rely on anyone other than ourselves to get out of this mess.
“The team looked a lot more balanced – Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen were impressive, while Sebastien Haller looked a little more like the player we all want him to be.
“I still think we need to be tighter defensive;y, but now we have something to build on and some of the confidence should have returned.”
Speaking about Saturday’s trip across the capital to face Arsenal, Dear added: “We have to go there believing we can get a result. Arsenal have done well under Mikel Arteta, but the Europa League exit will have hurt them. It will be interesting to see how they respond.
“The Gunners have some terrific attacking players. We will have our work cut out containing them. But going forward, we looked a threat last week. If we can replicate that, then we can give them something to think about and perhaps bring something back to east London.”
