Brown calls for a more ruthless approach from Daggers

Dagenham & Redbridge v Ebbsfleet United – Victoria Road – Vanarama National League – Thursday 3pm

Dagenham & Redbridge v Ebbsfleet United – Preview:

JODY BROWN called for an altogether more ruthless approach from Dagenham & Redbridge after they slipped to their fifth successive Vanarama National League defeat at Hartlepool United.

The Daggers adopted a counter-attacking system at Victoria Park and passed up one or two decent opportunities before Hartlepool snatched the points with a Mark Kitching strike thirteen minutes from time.

Speaking to www.daggers.co.uk, first-team coach, Brown, explained: “Our front players have got to be more clinical – we have lost too many games 1-0 or by very fine margins.

“We talk about it when we concede from set plays, and we talk about that fine margin. But it’s also at the other end – when you get chances you have to take them.”

The Daggers now face a huge festive fixture when bottom of the table, Ebbsfleet United come to Victoria Road on Boxing Day. However, Brown moved quickly to remove the pressure from his charges, adding: “I don’t want to build it up to be more important than what it is.

Every game of football, there’s the same number of points at stake.

“It’s a Boxing Day game – it’s in front of our own crowd – It’s against a team that are down the bottom of the league. But they have been doing better under Kevin Watson, their new manager. It’s going to be a tough game.

“When we go into Boxing Day, the message is loud and clear – be disciplined – have a good shape – use the ball, be brave with the ball – but when chances come, you have to take them.”
