Great Wakering Rovers v Hullbridge Sport – Pitching In Isthmian League North – Burroughs Park – Saturday (3pm) – Preview
Steve Butterworth admitted his position is on the line when his Great Wakering Rovers side host local rivals, Hullbridge Sports in an eagerly anticipated Pitching In Isthmian League North derby at Burroughs Park on Saturday.
Despite their excellent exploits in competitive knockout football, the Rovers remain rooted to the bottom of the table with a single point from six outings.
“It may be ‘make or break’, unfortunately,” Butterworth confessed following Tuesday’s 5-3 home defeat at the hands of Brentwood Town.
“I can’t go seven league games without a win and still expect to keep the job.
“The cup runs have been great for the club financially, the best they’ve ever had. But they will mean nothing if we went down.”
Butterworth confirmed that former Rovers and Margate boss, Iain O’Connell had linked up with the villagers in an advisory role: “
“I have managed to persuade my experienced friend OC to help. I feel we need some experience while we are struggling.”
Meanwhile, Hullbridge Sports arrive with issues of their own, sitting next to bottom, a point clear of the Rovers but without a win from any of their eight league matches to date.
Sports were beaten 4-1 at Coggeshall Town in midweek. Goalscorer, Jack Wilson was later sent off and will miss the match due to suspension.
