Butterworth banking on another bus trip to glory

Chichester City v Great Wakering Rovers – Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round – Oaklands Park – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Whilst their Pitching In Isthmian League North form remains an issue, Great Wakering Rovers boss, Steve Butterworth will continue to seek solace within knockout football, in which his side have thrived during the infancy of the current campaign.

Rovers reached the second qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup and produced some eye-catching performances along the way, a habit they hope to continue in the Buildbase FA Trophy at Isthmian League South East Division opponents, Chichester City on Saturday.

Once again, the Rovers put their wretched league form to one side, beating Stowmarket Town on penalties at the first qualifying round stage. Butterworth hopes the underdog tag coupled with another proverbial ‘Jolly Boy’s Outing’ will serve his side well in West Sussex.

“We seem to have thrived on the long trips and this is another one to look forward to,” the Rover chief told Yellow Sport.

“We’ve had three lengthy trips – the omens are good – finger crossed for a similar outcome.

“Chichester has had some mixed results in the league this season. They seem to find goals easy to come by. We need to be focused defensively.”

Butterworth added: “Once again, our league form is more important at the moment. Next Tuesday’s game with Brentwood Town is a priority. We need to get points on the board quickly.

“But a good performance and progress in the Trophy helps us financially and will give everyone a lift as we bid to get away from the bottom of the table. We will give every effort to get through to the next round.”
