Butterworth looking for a response as Rovers get their cup campaign underway

Great Wakering Rovers v Heybridge Swifts – Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round – Burroughs Park – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Great Wakering Rovers manager, Steve Butterworth is looking for a response from his side when they switch their attention to the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers entertain Essex rivals Heybridge Swifts at Burroughs Park in a preliminary round tie. The Scraley Road outfit is managed by former West Ham United favourite Julian Dicks, while one-time Southend United boss, Steve Tilson is employed in an assistant’s role.

And having slipped to defeat in their opening Pitching In Isthmian League North outing by Witham Town, Butterworth acknowledged that his side faces another stiff test in front of their own fans.

“We couldn’t have asked for a tougher tie to be honest,” the Rovers boss explained.

“I know they were beaten at the weekend as well. Julian will demand a response, the same as me. Both sets of players shouldn’t need motivation. The FA Cup is the best competition to be involved in as a non-league footballer and as a manager.”

Butterworth continued: “We have Sam Carter and Connor Martin back from suspension and George Cox back from holiday so we are at near full strength and looking forward to putting up a better display than we did last Saturday.”
