Great Wakering Rovers 1-4 Hornchurch

Steve Butterworth was far happier with his Great Wakering Rovers’ side despite seeing them slip to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Buildbase FA Trophy holders Hornchurch at Burroughs Park.

Having shipped ten goals against Dagenham & Redbridge during the week, Butterworth was looking for a response from his charges.

“I thought we held our own for an hour, but tiredness got the better of us,” the Rovers boss told Yellow Sport.

Liam Nash gave Hornchurch the lead. However, Jake Gordon restored parity five minutes before the interval for the spirited villagers.

But Nash restored the Urchins advantage within three minutes and further goals from Charlie Ruff and Charlie Stimson confirmed a 4-1 success for the visitors.

“It was a decent workout,” Butterworth added.

“We now need to get a couple of training sessions into the boys, working on shape before we head to Harlow Town on Saturday.”
