Will Buttleman proved to be the star attraction as the Essex 2nd XI saw off a strong Hampshire side at The Cloudfm County Ground.
The highly-rated wicketkeeper/batsman carried his bat, hitting 102* off 64 balls – a swashbuckling innings’ which included ten 4s and four 6s.
Josh Rymell was also amongst the runs – the 19-year-old right-hander looked set for 47 minutes before losing his middle pole to Ryan Stevenson on 58.
Essex posted 184/4 – Ajeet Dale – with 3/22 – the pick of the Hampshire attack.
Buttleman continued his fine afternoon’s work when donning the gloves, administering the stumpings of Joe Weatherley and Harry Broderick as well as snaring Tom Scriven to hand Aaron Beard one of his 3/29.
Aron Nijjar (3/17) and Jamie Porter – gleaning some valuable match practice with 2/11 – were also in fine fettle with the ball.
Kyle Abbott and Weatherley had each done their utmost for the visitors, both reaching 40. However, this was to be Buttleman, and Essex’s day.
