Southend United v Lincoln City – Roots Hall Stadium – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 3pm
Southend United v Lincoln City – Preview:
Sol Campbell spoke about the difficulties he has recently faced as relegation-haunted Southend United continue to slide towards the basement division.
The Blues ended a lengthy winless run with a 2-1 success at Accrington Stanley a fortnight ago but returned to action with a 3-1 setback at Doncaster Rovers – the Blues eighteenth defeat of the campaign.
And with another tough test on the horizon in the shape of a Lincoln City side that dispatched them by four unanswered goals back in August, Campbell confessed it is always going to be difficult to follow up days like the one at Accrington with the club seemingly in a tailspin.
“It’s not as easy as that sometimes,” he explained to www.southendunited.co.uk after the midweek setback at the Keepmoat Stadium.
“Personnel wise, we’ve had a few injuries, players have gone and we’ve had to keep on regrouping every single week that goes by.
“It is what it is. It’s January and for some reason, it’s all on Southend and [clubs are] cherry-picking the players, but you’ve got to get on with it. All I can do is prepare the team that is in front of me.
“It’s not easy with what we’ve got now, I’m trying to make things work and pieces keep on disappearing. You’ve just got to re-juggle and go again.”
Before Tuesday’s loss, Southend had shown signs of revival, stringing together an unbeaten four-match sequence. They will be looking to get back on track against a Lincoln side that has lost back-to-back League One matches to Portsmouth and Ipswich and are currently slipping away from those chasing a play-off berth.
Campbell could be without Stephen Humphrys, Timothee Dieng, Sam Mantom and Jason Demetriou for the Imps visit due to injury, while goalkeeper, Nathan Bishop, is reportedly finalising a shock move to Manchester United.
