Doncaster Rovers v Southend United – Keepmoat Stadium – Sky Bet League One – Tuesday 7:45pm
Doncaster Rovers v Southend United – Preview:
SOL CAMPBELL believes Doncaster Rovers will notice a difference in his Southend United side when the pair go head-to-head in Sky Bet League One at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The home side will be brimming with confidence after thrashing Southend by seven goals yo one in the corresponding fixture at Roots Hall back in mid-October. A match played hours after Campbell was announced as the Blues boss.
Nevertheless, Rovers have slipped away from the play-off places after failing to score in their previous two outings, while Southend – unbeaten in five – might have discovered the vigour required for an altogether more positive finish to what has so far been a depressing campaign.
“I think for sure, there will definitely be progress since last time we met,” Campbell explained.
“Obviously, they are a great side, move the ball quickly – good movement, especially in the midfield, so we’ve got to make sure we stand up to that movement, the rotation and we are good in the one-on-one duels
“We’ve got to set our stall out properly and when we’ve got a chance we’ve got to penetrate and go for it.”
The former England defender believed there was a good vibe surrounding the Blues following last weekends victory at Accrington Stanley – their first league success in seventeen attempts.
“I think we are on a nice run. It’s shaping up, but obviously, there’s always bumps in the road and we’ve got to organise ourselves again.
“The team is working really hard – it’s great to get a win – we are in good shape, but football and January is an interesting time for us. We’ll carry on. Everyone is kind of fine and fit, we are ready.”
