Canvey Island Town Council held its Annual Town Meeting and awards ceremony on Monday March 14.
Residents were asked to nominate individuals and groups who had made a significant contribution to the quality of life for Canvey Island residents.
The awards were established to recognise the efforts of those who work or live in Canvey Island and give up their own time, without any expectation or recognition, nominations were received under the categories of Citizen of the year, Community Group of the year, and Best Community Contribution from a Local Business, with special recognition awards in each of these categories.
Victoria Vesey was chosen as Citizen of the Year for her volunteering work and a special recognition award was given to Hayley Black for her fundraising for local charities.
Community group of the year was presented to Bobby’s Big Heart for dedication in providing provisions for families in desperate times, with a special recognition in this category given to St. Nicholas Church Foodbank for their efforts in continuing to operate the foodbank throughout and after the pandemic.
Best Community Contribution from a Local Business was awarded to Monico Leisure, for their work within the community and a special recognition award to The Canvey Supply Company Ltd, for their contributions to projects and voluntary groups on Canvey Island.
Town Mayor, Councillor Barry Palmer, said “I am very proud to have been able to present these awards to such worthy causes. The town council is pleased to be able to recognise the efforts of all of these individuals, groups and businesses.”
