Kent (Yet to bat)

Essex won the toss and elected to bat

Heavy overnight rain ensured a late start to day two of Essex’s LV= Insurance County Championship Division One encounter with Kent at Canterbury. But once the game got back underway, Essex batters Tom Westley and Nick Browne picked up where they’d left off as the visitors continued to dominate.

Play eventually started at a quarter past three with Essex resuming on 164 for one with Westley and Browne continuing to dominate.

Westley was unbeaten on 138 when the weather again took charge. The Essex skipper hit no less than twenty-three boundaries across his 177-ball stint.

Meanwhile, Browne displayed huge character while reaching 105* to mark a welcome return to form with the bat.

Earlier in the contest, Alastair Cook scored 39 before he was snaffled in the gloves of Sam Billings off a delivery from Wes Agar.

Bad light ensured another early conclusion. Play resumes on Saturday at 11am.
