Chalkwell Lifeguards Club volunteers were distraught to discover late on Friday afternoon that their club HQ at Chalkwell shelter had been vandalised.
A rogue padlock had also been placed onto the clubhouse doors.
Volunteers engaged in a frantic clear up operation on Friday evening to ensure that the building could open as usual at the weekend as a first aid station and for volunteers to continue with their winter training.
A club spokesman said ” this kind of pointless damage is heartbreaking coming just a week before Christmas, but we have to clear up and carry on serving the local community in any way that we can despite this setback”
Anyone with any information about this incident are encouraged to contact Essex Police.
