Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League – Etihad Stadium – Saturday 5:15pm – Preview
A welcome return to Premier League winning ways was quickly overshadowed by a defensive horror show which saw Tottenham Hotspur dumped out of the Emirates FA Cup at the fifth-round stage at Everton.
With plenty to get his teeth into, a trip to in-form Manchester City isn’t ideal for Jose Mourinho and his under-performing side. Nevertheless, the Spurs chief attempted to explain his troubled side find themselves in ahead of their trip to the North-West.
“Yes, but I have to try to forget it and help my players to forget,” Mourinho said.
“Yesterday, when I opened the file of the Everton game data, I opened and in two seconds I closed it immediately because I didn’t want to go through it and I don’t even want to share that with my players.
“One-hundred and twenty minutes playing at high intensity, chasing results, playing very fast and intense football, of course, was very, very hard.”
Mourinho continued: “City have a different game, of course, they have a different squad, they manage to rest the majority of the players because the result was quite comfortable.
“They could even rest the players during the game and make four or five changes, with players who played the previous Premier League match.
“But I’m not going to speak about this with my players. It’s let’s say the last match of this very difficult week, and then finally the players can have a day off on Sunday, and then we have only Austria on Thursday, which gives us a little bit of the rest that the boys need, but today that’s not a conversation between me and them.
“Today is just trying to rest and recover as best we can, to be tomorrow at the best level we can.”
Jeevesie’s prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur
