Garon Park over 65s sits second in the Essex Walking Football League over 65’s table following two victories and three clean sheets during the opening round of matches staged at Chelmsford City’s Melbourne Park.

The Southend-based side played out a hard-fought goalless drawn with Grays Athletic in their opening encounter – a match with very few genuine clear-cut opportunities. And they rode their luck in the second as opponents, Chelmsford City Clarets had a goal disallowed during the opening period.

Buoyed by the let-off, Garon Park immediately made the home side pay – Pino Schisano cracking home from distance to settle the contest.

Phil Pearce came up with the all-important goal in the final match to sink Chelmsford City Blues. This was a far more dominant display from Garon Park. The margin of victory perhaps should have been far greater with several chances going begging.
