GARETH CLEVERLY has stood down as manager of ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division outfit, Basildon Town.
With a heavy heart, Cleverly sited changing work arrangements for the decision which would have affected the level of time and commitment he could provide. However, the outgoing boss has confirmed he will continue to support the club in whatever way he can.
A statement from Town Chairman, Bob Moorecraft, explained: “I want to thank Gareth for the hard work and dedication he has given. We all know that Gareth has put everything into the Club and the great progress and success achieved since he took on the role is a testament to him and his team.
“It has been a pleasure to work with him and we know that his commitment level to the Club and everyone within it has been unbelievable. We have spoken with Gareth and we know that this was not an easy decision for him but was taken due to his changing work arrangements that meant he would not be able to give the level of commitment and time he feels is required to be our manager.
“Reluctantly we have accepted his decision. He has though said that he intends to continue supporting the Club in whatever way he can and that is fantastic news as it will help us to continue moving forward.“
Mr Moorecraft added: “We will be looking at the various options for the future and we know that we can count on everyone within the Club to assist. Given the current ‘lockdown’ it is impossible to know when we will be back together and doing the thing we love but we will now begin the process of appointing a new manager.
“We will firstly look in-house to ensure we are in the best position when we are allowed to begin training and playing again. Therefore, if anyone wants to get involved or give their views we would be pleased to hear from you.”
