Chelmsford took another big step towards the title by recording a four-wicket victory over Hornchurch at Chelmer Park.

James Clifford produced a terrific performance with the ball, taking seven Hornchurch wickets for 47 as the visitors were reduced to a modest 164 – Former Essex man, Merv Westfield top-scoring with 55 before becoming one of Clifford’s victims, trapped lbw.

Clifford led the way with the bat, scoring 41. Robert Catchpole (26) and Oliver Devenish (25) were in the middle at the conclusion – Adeel Malik’s 4/49 all to no avail for Hornchurch who slip to four.
